‘Hold Me Down’ is the follow up to You Me At Six’s 2008 debut album ‘Take Off Your Colours’. The guys’ sophomore album is one that shows how much they have matured over the past two years.
Everything is bigger, heavier and better in this latest offering. Lead singles ‘Underdog’ and ‘The Consequence’ showcase YMA6 at their best and are brilliantly catchy.
Lead singer Josh Francheschi cranks the vocals up a notch from ‘Take Off Your Colours’ as the album contains several ballads that are really, truly special; tracks such as ‘Contagious Chemistry’ provide Josh with a chance to really push himself and will surely become an anthemic crowd pleaser.
Aside from Josh’s more grown-up vocals, one can’t forget the importance of the band behind him, as track after track showcases sublime musicianship in a band whose average age is just 20. It’s depressing that I’m 21 – what the fuck have I done with my life?!
There is no sign of Elissa Francheschi’s (Josh’s sister) haunting vocals this time around, but instead we are provided with cameos from Sean Smith of The Blackout on ‘The Consequence’ – it’s his screaming that drives the track to its adrenaline infused climax – as well from Aled Phillips of Kids In Glass Houses in ‘Trophy Eyes’.
This will be the album that marks You Me At Six’s entry into the global consciousness and with a second Warped Tour in the summer; the world is theirs for the taking.
