Drinks at Twilight

Clothes have a night out too. When your hair is lank and sweatpants need a wash, it is time to put your books down and forget revision for a night. So put on your comfy, trendy, pre-summer rags, grab your friends and head to The Crown for a night of giggles and good drinks. Mariana's Lip lacquer, a divine deep red, is Mua Luxe London and is  £3.00 at the moment from Superdrug. Whilst her hat was a great find in Camden. She has the Boho feel and breezes a  Coachella vibe. Loi, has the summer Safari look conquered. Desert boots, tassel suede bag and leopard print shirt; she brings her Kenyan roots to Egham. Whilst Jess, takes on the quaint yet classic British girl look. Elegant, rose gold nails, snake skin boots and oversized brown blazer. All ...
Summer like it’s the Seventies

Summer like it’s the Seventies

So they say that history repeats itself, and when it comes to the archives of the fashion world, the same applies. The massive 90s trend has apparently come and gone, and now all the high-street fashion retailers such as Zara, Topshop and New Look appear to be overrun with copious amounts of suede, denim and those ever-so-boho neutral earthy tones. So yes, flared jeans (like the ones you used to prance around in when you were five…) loose, draping tops, fringing, crochet and platform sandals are back. Hold on to your overpriced floppy hats from Topshop, it’s the seventies again! But never fear ladies! I know you’d prefer to embrace this craze with caution in order to avoid looking like you’re channelling your inner Scooby-Doo cast. It’s all about that boho-chic, bringing back those clas...

Is Kanye cut out to do fashion?

Kanye presented his collaboration with sportswear super house Adidas at New York Fashion Week in March. However, it left a lot to be desired. Whilst Kanye dominates the rap music scene i,n the world of fashion he is a stranger. To begin the show (which was running half an hour late) Kanye’s booming voice echoed around the silent showroom: "I'm here to crack the pavement… I want to create something better for you.” Yeezy tells a room with the likes of Anna Wintour that HE is here to create and dictate fashion for them rather than the other way around. Whilst his arrogance in music is justified, in fashion he is in a completely different ballpark. Whilst his dress sense and interest in fashion is endearing one cannot walk into the fashion world and expect everyone to fall at your feet. In t...

Fashion Moving Forward

The fashion industry is one of the most economically successful and most powerful industries worldwide. There is no doubt then as to why this industry is used to speak volumes when it comes to protesting issues that are dear to designers, model’s and customers hearts. One of the most influential designer’s in leading protest in fashion would definitely be Vivienne Westwood. A woman who advocates action to prevent climate change and most recently has led anti-fracking and anti-capitalist protests. 2014 saw more designer’s using fashion to gather media attention for certain issues and I am curious as to whether this is a practise that will continue into 2015. In the style of Vivienne Westwood the A/W 2014 catwalk shows found designers incorporating messages into their own designs. Cara Dele...

What we love about winter: Student Edition!

When it comes to winter, most students picture cold mornings, the dark walk home after a 4pm class, the dreaded radiator breakdown, and the inability to leave the house without 5 layers on- especially a struggle when you’re already late for lectures. However, there are some who love the winter. Mostly because the winter means December, and December means almost Christmas, and almost Christmas means no Uni work, and no Uni work means filling your days with lie-in’s, mince pies and blankets. What’s not to love? Well we've rounded up 5 things about winter which even the self-confessed summer lovers can’t help but love this time of year… 1. The excuse to buy that new coat you wanted. So it may be £79 and completely impractical for rain, but what’s £79 when you can not only look great, but al...

Thigh gap or booty? The choice is yours.

Through the ages, women have had to choose a path at an inevitable life crossroad. In more classic times the choice would have been between Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. At today’s crossroad she chooses between icons such as Keira Knightley and Adele. The question of what makes the body beautiful has shaped throughout history a careful sketch of opposing traits of feminitiy, personality and more worringly inner conflict. The path that she chooses defines how she views female beauty and will ultimately contribute to the creation of a standardised definition of beauty. Shakespeare was wrong to ask ‘to be or not to be’ but rather a more accurate (and useful) modern translation would be ‘to be thin or not to care’. I don’t think I’m making a ground breaking discovery when I say that body ...

S/S 2015 Looks

This season’s S/S 2015 fashion shows are well underway. We’re saying goodbye to winter weather and so we must bit adieu to winter fashion. The question is what’s in store for Spring? Florals. No thanks. This season fashion powerhouses such as Acne, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Margiela, Prada and many more are bringing well tailored garments back. Of course, a well tailored item of clothing never really goes out of style. But this S/S is seeing an increase in popularity of well tailored, coats, dresses and especially blazers (often worn as dresses with a great pair of heels). In contrast to the tailored items on the catwalk were fluffy organza skirts and unkempt hairstyles from designer houses such as Chloé. This clash on the catwalk between fine tailoring with something a little messier ...

Quirky Nail Art: Newspaper Nails

Tired of block colour nails? Fancy trying something quirky? If you want to try something different, I recommend the newspaper nail look. It is an interesting look, and a great way to reuse newspaper before recycling it! It is also a fun platform to start with for those who want to experiment with their nail art in future, and a good starter point because of its simplicity. For the ultimate newspaper look I recommend white nail varnish, but if you fancy something a bit different, feel free to use any nail colour of your choice. You can also use water instead of Vodka, but I find that rubbing alcohol works best for longer lasting results. What you will need: -Vodka (or any rubbing alcohol) -Base coat -White nail varnish (or any colour of your choice) -Top coat -Newspaper Steps:...

Picnic pair-off

As the warm weather approaches and we crawl out of the library to embrace the rays, it is undeniable that we are all dying to grab some Pimm’s and have a picnic. But picnicking in the wrong attire can be uncomfortable, and inhibit you from devouring all the food, so here’s some advice for the best fashionable and practical summer ensembles... No doubt you will have seen high street shops styling outfits made up of two key pieces: the top is usually an oversized crop, shirt or blazer. This is paired with matching cigarette trousers for the sports luxe look, or midi skirts, miniskirts, shorts and maxis for a more feminine feel. These two piece outfits are perfect for picnicking, as the “matchy matchy” style makes it easier for you when getting ready - you don’t need to scour your war...
