The Clay Drop is a project by the wonderful Jessica Moore. Jess specialises in a number of colourful clay earrings made from polymer clay, all designed and handmade by her at home. My favourite things about The Clay Drop are the vibrant colours and funky patterns, the perfect addition to any outfit, I have about 5 pairs of The Clay Drop’s earrings myself. The process of creating the earrings is quite complex. Each earring is made from polymer clay that is rolled into a slab. The clay slabs are then cut into shapes and the clay is baked in the oven, the edges are sanded down and holes are drilled. After this is done the studs and hooks are attached and the earrings are ready to be sent to customers! Whilst perfecting her process Jess has managed to create a variety of different patterns and colours and she often has to mix these colours and create these patterns herself. It can be a long and difficult process due to the complexities of some of the designs that she creates, however, the finished product is always amazing!
The Clay Drop’s collections often feature charity donations from the profits received. The Clay Drop’s rainbow earrings and pin badges alone raised £850 for NHS Charities Together, an important charity due to COVID-19’s impact on the NHS. Additionally, The Clay Drop introduced a bigger collection of rainbow earrings, in a variety of different designs, with 30% of each sale going to a charity called AKT. AKT is a charity that provides support to young LGBTQ+ people in the UK facing homelessness and/or hostile home environments.
These charitable donations and the collections themselves demonstrate Jess’s passion for creativity, inclusivity and individuality. With over 6,000 Instagram followers, in such a short space of time, it is likely that The Clay Drop is going to do great things, inspiring and helping others along the way. This is demonstrated by the latest collections selling out within hours! The most recent collections by The Clay Drop are the Cosmic Cowgirl Collection, Fruity Collection and Cosmic Creatives Collection, with a new collection arriving for Halloween. In such uncertain times it is vital that we support small independent businesses and The Clay Drop is one that I’d highly recommend!
