ROHO Snow On Tour!

In recent years RoHo Snow have always organised an annual winter ski trip for their members, and this past December has proven no different. Royal Holloway’s ski and snowboard club have recently spent a week at the Val Thorens Ski Resort, a trip also made in 2012.

Naturally making the most of the facilities on offer catered for the bulk of this visit, however alongside a week of skiing there were various other activities for members to enjoy. A night out was arranged for every evening by the committee and reps, often involving fancy dress, alongside spa trips and restaurant meals to provide an experience that offered plenty when not on the slopes.

This year’s tour also gave RoHo Snow the opportunity to take part in the Red Bull 1976 Games, an event allowing a range of different universities to get teams together and compete in a head to head giant slalom. Royal Holloway were successful in winning their first heat but unfortunately just missed out on reaching the final race. This occasion was a particular highlight of the trip for the club’s members, in which the whole team dressed in retro ski onesies for an event that was accompanied by a barbecue and free mulled wine – always a bonus.

The trip was also however a fantastic opportunity for those in RoHo Snow that would not usually socialise to come together and mingle in a fun environment. Group ski sessions were organised throughout the week to encourage those that would not usually speak to come together and get to know each other. The nature of this club makes it impractical to host a regular league such as for say football or rugby, which really reinforces the importance of these events in bringing all members together.

Looking forward, RoHo Snow are currently looking to organise a second consecutive visit to Pas de la Casa in Andorra, following on from last Easter’s visit. This will be alongside their usual annual winter trip, and is likely to take place in the first week of the Easter holidays. RoHo Snow will also be participating in an indoor competition in Milton Keynes this coming February, which will give some racers an opportunity at competing.

RoHo Snow have also been working on a potential collaboration with Royal Holloway’s Surf Club to put on a huge charity event. Ideas are still in an early stage of development, but all readers should definitely watch this space for further details.
