Les Miserables...Today!   (‘…Ι give you back to god!’)   It’s unbelievable how one book can change your life with the magical quality that only literature has. Especially when that book is also a well-known musical! Les Miserables, from the great novelist Victor Hugo, was first published in 1862, and was followed by many re-publications and big screen adaptations. In 1980, it was first presented as a musical, with the music composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with French and English lyrics-libretto written by Alain Boublin, Jean Marc Natel and Herbert Kretzmer respectively. Since then, this musical phenomenon was presented to over 75 million people in 42 different countries worldwide, a truly special honor for the book, which is an achievement in modern literature...

Learning French with Kimmy Schmidt

When I got a free trial of Netflix, it was because I wanted to finally watch some of the Netflix Original Series and also because you can watch endless episodes of Doctor Who without having to swap the DVDs around. What I didn't expect to gain from Netflix was the ability to learn a language. You may well have heard of a programme called Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It's a very funny comedy series about a woman named Kimmy Schmidt living in New York, with a premise that I won't elaborate on too much because it was a very funny surprise for me. One thing that stands out about the programme is how easy it is to watch. Hours can fly by in the company of Kimmy and her friends and there's good, light-hearted stories that you can easily follow, whether you binge watch a season or dip in and out...

Bonjour à tous! To all the lovers of good food, good wine and good company: the French Society is back and we welcome everyone who wants to have fun the French way! With cultural activities ranging from food and wine evenings, language classes, and trips abroad there are many events this year that will guarantee to satisfy those who are passionate about France and the French culture. Cultural and language socials such as karaoke nights (of course with French songs!), wine and cheese evenings or film nights will be events you can count on finding in our busy and varied social calendar. And most importantly, in the coming year, we will run two trips to France: a trip to Lille during the first term to explore their Christmas markets and, in April/May, a trip to the beautiful capital ci...
