An Interview with Kellie Cheung

Photo by Liberty Simons By Beth McCowen In light of lacrosse being named as an Olympic sport for Los Angeles 2028, The Orbital sat down with player Kellie Cheung to talk about her personal journey with the sport, what this news means for the lacrosse community, as well as her time competing with Royal Holloway. Photo by Sharks Lacrosse HK Can you tell us a bit about your personal journey with lacrosse? “I came to the UK when I was 12 and attended boarding school, and that's where I started to play lacrosse. I actually started as a goalie in high school, then at university I was midfield attack. After my year abroad, I joined Hong Kong Lacrosse, so I would play with Hong Kong during the summers. Men’s Lacrosse Season Review

Previously in BUCS lacrosse leagues, the quality of a team has been based on the amount of US based or experienced players that the team has. Royal Holloway lacrosse team gained no experienced or overseas players this year and the only recruits were players who had barely heard of the sport, let alone picked up a stick. The future looked challenging for a team that had never won a piece of silverware. The entire team knew it would be an uphill battle especially with larger universities who had more players to choose from. With transport problems solved, we woke up, proceeded to the changing rooms, were amazed by the fact that they had a swimming pool (so unfair), warmed up, realised that we forgot half the stuff we needed in the changing room, went back, got it, and became more organised. All in all, everyone managed to get shoes on, ...

Czech out Lacrosse!

Another year had passed and yet again the Lacrosse club cap off a successful season with a long lasting tradition… TOUR! This year had been, no doubt, filled with memories on and off the pitch with all Men’s, Women’s and Mixed teams yet again showing their presence in BUCS. However there was only one thing on our minds… Prague was the destination. Jetting in late at night, the club were dozily introduced to our hub for the coming week. Situated deep in central Prague, many of us had instinctively grown attached to the local beer museum for purposes no other than to sample the nostalgic ‘Kingswood’ cider. Our two fixtures were scheduled against Prague Lacrosse Club; both mixed games. However some of us who did not normally play mixed got in the spirit and took this opportunity to i...
