The Greatest Treasures of Budapest

Budapest was created in 1873 by the merger of three cities: Buda, Óbuda and Pest and it’s the capital of Hungary. Its inspiring architecture, beautiful river views, and the world-famous 16th-century thermal baths make this city a popular attraction to many. Whether it’s a romantic escape or a squad adventure, Budapest is home to many incredibly beautiful treasures and landmarks that you cannot miss if you visit. Buda Castle The historical palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest sits on the south tip of Castle Hill, on what is known as the Várnegyed (castle district). Built in 1247, Buda castle was one of the Largest gothic building in the middle ages. If you visit here you should set aside one whole day to do so as it is not only a magnificent building, but it is also home ...

SPOTLIGHT ON: THE 80s SOCIETY.

With the 80s Society grooving into their very successful first year, nominated for ‘Best New Society’ at this year’s Societies ball, I speak to the 80s Society committee to find out more. President: Leah Hewerdine Treasurer: Max Lawson Secretary: Laura Shipp Social secretary: Kiran Hayre How has your first year been as a society? It’s been great – so much fun! We’ve been really overwhelmed with the interest in The 80s Society. So far we’ve got around 50 members, which is so much more than we expected. Getting nominated for ‘Best New Society’ at this year’s Societies Ball, as well as our Treasurer Max Lawson receiving a Crest award for his contribution to the SU, was even better! What are you most proud of? Gaining so many members in just our first year has got to be one o...

It is likely our Thursday lectures would thank us for a night in, yet for a single guy what better opportunity is it to flex the muscle memory of high school flirting techniques... So, what I ask is, how are the guys here at Royal Holloway pulling girls at the SU? With a higher percentage of girls to guys, it is easy to presume that the task will be an easy one and guys at the SU are definitely not lacking in confidence. Through witnessing the awkwardness of them attempting to make their move, their tactics are interesting, to say the least... Many get drunk and grope and grind on the dance floor, whilst others attempt to make ‘bedroom eyes’ across the bar. A fai...

The weekend to-do list

Whether it’s an activity that gets your adrenaline pumping or a relaxing walk through a park, everyone should spend some time away on the weekend. Don’t get me wrong, there are loads of things to do on campus that should definitely be checked out, but after a while you will probably be wanting something new and different – so listen up! RELAX: For those of you wanting a chill day (or romantic night!) of strolling through a beautiful area, it is definitely necessary to visit Windsor.   With a change at Staines, it is a fast, easy and cheap train ride to Eton Riverside station. There are plenty of places along the river that are perfect for a picnic and there is also a huge beautiful park by the central station as well that is really peaceful to walk through! Feed the swan...
