Raise Up Your Talents

Michele Theil reviews the Raise-And-Give Talent Show, an event raising money for three excellent charities. The Raise-And-Give society’s charity event, aptly named ‘Royal Holloway’s Got Talent’ was hosted in the SU Main Hall and allowed students and parents to see a wide variety of talents and acts. The show aimed to raise money for Action Against Hunger, Meningitis Now and The White Lodge Centre. Action Against Hunger is “a global charity committed to saving the lives of malnourished children in over 40 countries”. Meningitis Now is a global charity that researches for and supports sufferers of Meningitis and The White Lodge Centre is dedicated to “supporting disabled people of all ages”. Each charity supports extremely worthwhile causes that RAG is dedicated to raising money for. T...

RAG’s Cinderfella Reviewed

“I wish I could go but I just can’t face going out in the cold. I’m also not a great fan of pantomimes…” And within three hours of uttering those words I was out of the house, on my way to the SU to see Cinderfella, this year’s RAG Christmas Panto. As a self-confessed pantomime sceptic, I was slightly concerned about being sat in the aisle for something that heavily involves audience participation, but when we established that 'custard pie-ing' the audience was a pantomime tradition that only exists in Cornwall, I relaxed into the panto atmosphere. From Monkey’s to Medicine and the new Stumble Out, there are few places familiar to Holloway students t...

Charity Bingo Night!

Women’s Football have done it again, smashing what they could have ever hoped to achieve and raising £809 for Cancer Research UK in just two hours! Their secret..? Bingo! Charity Secretary of the club, Helena Fox spent the best part of two months organising the event which took place in Stumble Inn, chasing up various companies for their amazing donations, including many of Royal Holloway’s on campus outlets like the Students’ Union, Tommy’s Bar, Medicine, the College Shop, and the Sport’s Centre! “Bingo was unbelievable! I’m overwhelmed by how many people braved a freezing Thursday night to come out and support this incredible cause” says Helena. The night consisted of three rounds of bingo, hosted by the legend that is, Rhubarb TV’s Kate Burns, who had no trouble keeping it lively!...

Meet the SU by-election Winners

Our News Editor caught up with some of the newly elected representatives to see what they have in store for the coming year: Amy Timmins - RAG Chair What is your main goal as RAG chair this year? Firstly I want to raise awareness of what RAG is, which if people reading this don't know, is raising and giving money for charity! Then once lots of people are aware of RAG, I would love to encourage as many people to get involved and get them as passionate as me about raising money for charity. Which RAG events can we look forward to this year? I am full of ideas but also very open to everyone's suggestions (so please let me know!!) Some of my ideas so far are Jailbreak (get sponsored to get as far away from campus as possible without any money), a colour run (a sponsored run around campus ...
