Sweet and salty cashew butter apple nachos

Forget the  stringy melted cheese, coolness of the sour cream, zingy spice of jalapeños and the crunch of toasted tortilla chips (Don’t panic- it’s just for a moment!) because we have a new take on nachos that is perfect fuel for revision breaks plus it is guilt free! This recipe takes less than 10 minutes to make, involves no cooking or baking and only a little bit of microwave action so it’s perfect for exam season. If you resist eating them in one sitting place them in the fridge and they will keep for up to 4 days ready to be taken out whenever a late night library session is needed.   You’ll need: Rolled oats Green or red apples Peanut of cashew butter (we used cashew butter as its slightly sweeter) Peanuts (salted works better) Optional: Dark chocolate...

Easter Eggham

With Easter fast on the approach it's time to take notice of the excessive displays of chocolatey goodness, that have been running since Christmas at your local supermarkets. And if you haven’t already taken a moment to drool over the return of the Creme egg, I have taken it upon myself to investigate the egg situation in Egham. The truth about Yoga

Yoga! You are probably thinking green juices, instagram worthy ab pictures, and headstands on white sandy beaches. Yet, although I can’t deny these are true, it is in actual fact one of the most accessible forms of exercises there is. Simply roll out a towel in you room there is no need for sweaty gyms! In the run up to exams and with the term drawing to a close, it’s fair to say we are all feeling a little more tense than usual. However, instead of crumbling into the cookie under the pressure of deadlines take some time out to relax your mind and body whilst keeping your sanity and waistline on point. I decided to see what Yoga is all about. For one hour I joined Lucy Montague, President of the Yoga Society, for her weekly yoga session and ask her if it really does what it says. Indeed...

Learning to Live

The brutality of life is something which can hit you like a tonne of bricks when you’re least expecting it. Walking down the street showcasing a big grin after your boyfriend sent you a cute text which reminds you of how blessed you are can be shortly lived, independent of geography. Whether you are greeted by the Red Cross appeal on the side of a bus or you are confronted by the beggar at your feet or even are greeted by your own aches and pains. When asked, I call myself a Christian but regardless of my distaste at clichés, I feel this is inappropriate in this day and age. I have spent time volunteering for homeless shelters, donated money to strangers in need and given to the food bank in Egham Tesco but I continue to live a life of abundance whilst a girl my age struggles to live a...

Literary Party

We are welcoming the new library development on campus. Well to be precise, cranes and cement mixers have invaded campus since September. However it is an exciting time for campus as it expands to welcome not only more students and facilities but opens its doors to an ever-growing world of literature. Therefore, for this month’s photos we decided to give our books a bit of a party before they find their new home. Yet again the fantastic Fashion Society joined us: Grace Caro otherwise known as Jane from Twilight’s Volturi was accompanied by Hannes Riester dressed as Jacob Black and Tereza Hadrboicová staring as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Alongside the Fashion Society we welcomed the thrilling Tolkien society and had members Graham Morell, Anna Darnena and Vikki Luff...

Davison, Porter and you: the Fashion that shaped a century.

Archaic, grand and classic are just a few synonyms that you may use when you describe Royal Holloway’s campus. Set apart from other Universities, it has a unique majestic look that has placed Egham on the map. Our students past and present have a sartorial that is reinventing London’s West End style. For Royal Holloway have rather stylish Alumni whose influence has continued into the present day. Other Universities often comment upon, the style of Holloway’s students. Shopping at Waitrose instead of Aldi, wearing Versace and carrying Mulberry instead of Primark and River Island. Royal Holloway most definitely has a Royal couture.   Undeniably the University has been known for its strong female legacy. In particular Suffragette campaigner Emily Davison and what is often overlooke...

“Grab a coat”… you’re hitting the SU!

So will you be at the SU on Wednesday night? After all, where else will you find sticky floors and artificially blue VK’s? It is likely our Thursday lectures would thank us for a night in, yet for a single guy what better opportunity is it to flex the muscle memory of high school flirting techniques... So, what I ask is, how are the guys here at Royal Holloway pulling girls at the SU? With a higher percentage of girls to guys, it is easy to presume that the task will be an easy one and guys at the SU are definitely not lacking in confidence. Through witnessing the awkwardness of them attempting to make their move, their tactics are interesting, to say the least... Many get drunk and grope and grind on the dance floor, whilst others attempt to make ‘bedroom eyes’ across the bar. A fai...
