Run, Ride and Rest

Right so summer is coming up quickly, and all you want to do is hang out with your mates, those from home you haven’t seen in months, recent acquaintances and not forgetting the array of individuals you hope to meet, correct? However, loitering around the local park with a bottle of Strongbow has rather lost its appeal and you cannot afford the extravagant cost of festival season especially if you hope to go travelling. So here are some ideas, on the cheap side, so you don’t resolve to sitting indoors on the X-Box all day. 1. Paint-Balling! Awesome, isn’t it? You get to shoot your best mate with neon pink paint, whilst testing your survival and camouflage skills. It’s a great way to get everyone back together, outside competing is speed, agility and cunning. Located all over the UK, and...

Beer & Cricket: An English Summer

Summer is upon us. Exams are finished, the weather is warm, and Crosslands is now full of the same wild eyed, frankly distressed looking people you saw in the library last month now shamelessly ordering several jugs of Pimm’s to themselves. But for the English, more specifically Englishmen such as myself of the bumbling, inelegant variety, summer can frankly be a bit of a nuisance. How is one meant to enjoy oneself when ‘getting out of the cold’ is no longer a valid excuse to hide in the dingy corner of a pub and methodically try all the guest ales, when al fresco drinking means escaping irritating or awkward company on the pretext of a smoke break is no longer possible, and it’s ten degrees too hot to wear even a light jacket? What I’m saying is, how do you enjoy summer when you basica...

Frugal Fun: Free Events in London Over Summer

Hearing the word ‘free’ as a student is a blessing, especially during the summer months when the next loan instalment seems so far from reach. Fortunately, Egham is a stone’s throw away from the capital, home to a huge variety of events that won’t break the bank. In addition to the multitude of year round free attractions, with gems such as the National Portrait Gallery and Natural History Museum, this summer is host to events to suit everyone, from art tarts to party fanatics. Here’s just a snippet of the best free things London has to offer this summer: • Turntables Popup Party, Hackney Wick – Until 31st July Turntables debuted in London winter 2014, bringing a selection of mega international DJs such as San Soda, and mind blowing food to Hackney Wick. This summer, Turntables is back...

Quad Style

Chilling out in the sun by Crosslands is the perfect place to stylish, intelligent and modish. Amin, styled an oversized white top, finished with a pair a shades; ready for the summer right before the "intense" heat hits England. Haha! Whereas, Carlo's pre-summer sartorial was more casual. He wore a maroon T-shirt and comfy jeans.   Whilst Alessandro, took a sharper approach with a blue shirt yet still looked immaculately relaxed.

The Hustle and Bustle of a London Intern

Spending two weeks away from egg-sized Egham to intern at a production company in London was the push I needed to dabble in the ‘real world’. I jumped out of bed on my first day as the alarm went off at 6:30am. I knew being late wasn’t going to cut it! Now, what was I going to wear to work? How casual is ‘casual attire’? I ended up going with a black and white striped shirt and black jeans and hoped for the best. Turns out casual attire is actually pretty casual… phew. I was given a laptop and a place at a desk straight away, really not knowing what to expect. It was my first time working in an office.   I was asked to watch last year’s Victoria’s Secret Swim Special that they produced and come up with ideas for the next one – awesome. Then I was asked to do research on the new ...

Impressed with Vogue Fest

If ever there was an excuse to get all dressed up on the weekend and surround yourself with glamour and fashion fun, it’s for the Vogue Festival. This year’s Vogue Fest seemed to stop at no limits as the foyer activities alone was an immense fashion overload. The day featured a Bobbi Brown beauty station, an organic pharmacy giving feel-good-facials, a Topshop nail bar, trend talks with Vogue editors, the chance to have a Vogue cover shoot with Chanel accessories, book signings, Vogue speed styling and a Vogue shop which contained exclusive, limited edition merchandise. There was also a Harrods café and a Harrods green man greeting people, adding that extra classiness. With all of this in mind, the price of the ticket at £25 simply seemed too good to be true, and would have been a fashi...

Drinks at Twilight

Clothes have a night out too. When your hair is lank and sweatpants need a wash, it is time to put your books down and forget revision for a night. So put on your comfy, trendy, pre-summer rags, grab your friends and head to The Crown for a night of giggles and good drinks. Mariana's Lip lacquer, a divine deep red, is Mua Luxe London and is  £3.00 at the moment from Superdrug. Whilst her hat was a great find in Camden. She has the Boho feel and breezes a  Coachella vibe. Loi, has the summer Safari look conquered. Desert boots, tassel suede bag and leopard print shirt; she brings her Kenyan roots to Egham. Whilst Jess, takes on the quaint yet classic British girl look. Elegant, rose gold nails, snake skin boots and oversized brown blazer. All ...

Mini Pastry Pizza : Cheese, Tomato & Ham

Lifestyle Ham, Cheese and Tomato Pastry Mini Pizza After a long studious day at the library, the last thing i usually want to do is come home and spend at least an hour preparing something appropriate enough to fill myself up. This is where my new best friend, Jus Rol comes in. In under five minutes of prep time, i managed to conjure up a half decent dinner which I would probably pay around £8 for in a Prezzo-style restaurant. Ingredients (makes one pizza): -Two medium-sized washed tomatoes -Two slices of crumbed (or un-crumbed) Honey Roast ham -Two heaped tablespoons of shredded mature cheddar - feel free to go over if you like your pizzas super cheesy (or any cheese you prefer, Mozzarella is also a good option) Directions: 1. Roll out (carefully to avoid the sheet fr...

Summer Ball Style

The warmer months are finally here! Forget the possibility of April showers, because we’re looking forward to the warmer months and the trends that love the sun as much as we do. Summer at Royal Holloway brings us one of the biggest events in the students’ calendar; the summer ball! Whilst it’s still a few weeks away yet, we can’t help but hope that a bit of outfit planning may get us through those pre-exam blues, and so we’ve created outfit mood boards specifically with the Summer Ball in mind. The trends which have inspired us this issue are ones which have us wishing for summer; Think florals and pastels, bold lip colours, two pieces, and chunky heels. The summer ball is the perfect event to change up your look and experiment with a different style. The Topshop ‘Spr...
