Everybody has at least one domestic horror story throughout university, starring the notorious ‘terrible housemates.’ Shared accommodation means living within very close proximities to friends and also those you may not consider friends. Whether it’s the flatmates you are allocated in first year (and have no choice but to share with) or your very own, handpicked housemate, there are many disasters just waiting to happen. The Shakespeare society kicked off the first week of February with the Shakespeare-A-Thon. Stationed outside the Windsor building, they braved the biting cold to bring the Bard to campus farers. The Shakespeare-A-Thon follows on the tails of the society’s 5th Anniversary show which took place on January 25th. By this I don’t mean force yourself to be horrible to people. I’m simply suggesting, the times when you really know you can’t afford to deal with other people’s problems, choose not to! Eyesore Building Developments Across Royal Holloway

Eyesore Building developments outside the Windsor Building and the famous Founder's Building are fully underway and taking away some of the beauty of the RHUL campus. The project, which has an expected completion date of September 2017, began this summer and now term has commenced, and students have assembled back to Egham, the changes across campus are not unnoticeable. One first year student, living on the East side of Founder’s building, comments that the close proximity of the site to student accommodation means there is less need for an alarm for those 9am lectures, stating “although the building grind is not unbearable, it can certainly act as an alternative wake-up call in the morning”. I caught up with MTS director Kathryn Pickering and spoke with her about the Into the Woods Performance and its production, and why being involved in MTS is such an excitement. Why did you decide to get involved in MTS? – is it because of the course you did or because it is just something you love to do? It is something I love to do (although I do study drama and music). Boris Bikes Destined for Holloway?

Royal Holloway’s Sustainability Society is undertaking an extremely exciting project, in a bid to bring the NextBikes Scheme to life. The scheme, were it to be implemented, would provide bike hire similar to that of London Boris Bikes. The German based company offering the simple technology, has already had successful schemes in the Universities of Warwick, Stirling and Strathclyde. The bikes are extremely user friendly, and can be hired using college cards, NextBikes cards or an app on your mobile phone. In addition to this, you can use the same card to take out bikes in countries around Europe that use the NextBikes Scheme. The bike racks are designed specifically for NextBikes and so limited spaces will not be an issue. Maintenance is also offered by a local company, and the bikes come...
