BREAKING: The Packhorse gets 2/5 in government Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

The Packhorse which opened to the general public in May of this year, received its first routine inspection on 25 September. The report given to The Packhorse, which Orbital Magazine has seen, detailed that there were ‘poor standards of cleanliness’ and that such standards ‘will not be tolerated’. Using the most recent food hygiene ratings available on the food.gov website, The Packhorse is now within the lowest 7 of the 126 businesses in Egham that are accountable under the scheme. Whilst it is now law for businesses within Wales and Northern Ireland to display their food hygiene ratings, this is yet to become mandatory in England. RHUL hits the Fringe: Singing on Skid Row

Ethereal Theatre Company held auditions at Royal Holloway months ago, choosing the best of the best to go with them to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to perform the cult classic ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’. As the other audience members and I stood in line to enter The Grand Theatre at Surgeons Hall in Edinburgh for their last performance, two of the show’s crew greeted us in hazmat suits and stamped us all with Skid Row barcode ‘tattoos’, a key component of the direction in which the production has gone in. Director Mahmoud Zayat took Howard Ashman’s script and incorporated dystopic themes of “control”, “surveillance” and “innovate science”. Thorpe Park Thrill Seekers Trapped for 2 Hours

With Thorpe Park being one of the most popular, not to mention closest, national amusement park to Royal Holloway, concern is erupting over the regular break-down of the Saw ride. On Saturday 8th October, passengers on the Saw roller coaster ride were part way round their terrifying trip on the ride which is themed on the 2004 horror film franchise, when the rails jammed 30-feet in the air on a vertical incline. Eight people in the cart had to be evacuated manually by theme park staff when the ride broke down on the Saturday afternoon (October 8), and it took the staff around an hour and 45 minutes to release the passengers back down to safety. The New Boilerhouse Cafe

The latest development in Royal Holloway’s Estate Plan was unveiled last week, with the opening of the Boilerhouse Café. Situated just off the Boilerhouse Courtyard, it serves as a replacement to Café Jules which closed down during summer, in order to free up more academic space in the International Building. In keeping with its historical significance, there are renovated wooden beams and exposed brick walls which creates a very light and airy space. Its facilities include space for 30-40 people to sit inside - on comfy sofas or at study benches - and additional bench seating in the social space in the courtyard. Vehicle Incident at the gates of Royal Holloway

This morning at approximately 10.05am there was a collision by the front gates. Student Evie Courtier was crossing the bridge at the moment of the crash just after 10 this morning and states she “heard a commotion below” before looking down to a man disembarked from his motorbike, and at least 3 cars involved. The situation seemed severe, but the public passing below took action immediately and within minutes the police and an ambulance had been called. When passing about 20 minutes later other students commented on the situation, however it all seemed to be in the control of the emergency services. Details have not yet been released on the severity of the incident or any casualties, however it is not believed to be fatal. Egham Hill is a notorious location for crashes, this is al...
