Could you win at being Anna Wintour?

Fashion Weeks come and go all over the world, and for the most part, the students who are interested, like myself, are glued to Instagram just to see a glimpse of the couture gowns flowing down the runway at ungodly prices. I bet some of those garments cost more than my own house in Englefield Green. Fashion shows are on a higher level, and not one exactly known for being accessible. Seeing icons such as Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington parked on the front row with eagle eyes (or sunglasses in Anna’s case), it makes you wonder, could just anyone be Anna? Maybe by following her regime you could become the Ice Queen herself… The iconic Editor in Chief of American Vogue starts her morning at a terrifying 5.45am where she finds herself arriving at New York’s Midtown Tennis Club for an h...

Literary Party

We are welcoming the new library development on campus. Well to be precise, cranes and cement mixers have invaded campus since September. However it is an exciting time for campus as it expands to welcome not only more students and facilities but opens its doors to an ever-growing world of literature. Therefore, for this month’s photos we decided to give our books a bit of a party before they find their new home. Yet again the fantastic Fashion Society joined us: Grace Caro otherwise known as Jane from Twilight’s Volturi was accompanied by Hannes Riester dressed as Jacob Black and Tereza Hadrboicová staring as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Alongside the Fashion Society we welcomed the thrilling Tolkien society and had members Graham Morell, Anna Darnena and Vikki Luff...

Davison, Porter and you: the Fashion that shaped a century.

Archaic, grand and classic are just a few synonyms that you may use when you describe Royal Holloway’s campus. Set apart from other Universities, it has a unique majestic look that has placed Egham on the map. Our students past and present have a sartorial that is reinventing London’s West End style. For Royal Holloway have rather stylish Alumni whose influence has continued into the present day. Other Universities often comment upon, the style of Holloway’s students. Shopping at Waitrose instead of Aldi, wearing Versace and carrying Mulberry instead of Primark and River Island. Royal Holloway most definitely has a Royal couture.   Undeniably the University has been known for its strong female legacy. In particular Suffragette campaigner Emily Davison and what is often overlooke...

Trick or Treat: The Fall Essential Looks

This year fall fashion and makeup has taken a turn for the scary, for some, adventuring into a more dangerous stylistic sartorial. Fall usually sticks to the same look: flannels, thick scarves, black boots, berry lips…you get the picture. Autumn essentially tricks people into thinking what they need to wear and what makeup they must use to look fall-esq, but fear not reader, I am here to tell you what you need to do in order to treat yourself this Autumn time, whilst living off a student budget you too can mimic the expense of catwalk glamour. Knee high boots are normally a vital piece to an outfit when October comes but the catwalk this year was hot on loafers. Loafers, although not very efficient in wet, snowy weather can be found at low prices on Asos.com, in real leather which is al...

My Time At London Fashion Week

My Time At London Fashion Week

On Saturday the 19th September I was given a very exciting opportunity, which involved working as a backstage intern at London Fashion Week, representing the designer Rohmir. I make no lie in pretending I have any prior experience in this sector what so ever, nor do I consider myself a leading fashionista, however I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I have done. As I arrived at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden, it was unmistakably fashion week what with banners draped in bright yellow, reading ‘Fashion Scout’ all over the sides of the buildings. Feeling a little nervous I asked security on the front of house where I had to go, they proceeded to show me round to the backstage entrance which needless to say I got very excited about. After going through security and confi...

Who said you need to go on holiday to have fun?

We’ve all had that moment when we realise that everyone will be having the time of their life in Barcelona, Saint-Tropez or even Los Angeles for the summer and we won’t be. Sometimes money is tight. Sometimes money is as tight as our jeans are as we’ve spent way too much on Domino’s. However, not going on holiday isn’t the end of the world. Being at a university so close to London means that we can enjoy various fun events and experiences there instead. Here are a few things to do in London at a very reasonable (or sometimes non-existent) price. Enjoy free activities at the beautiful Canary Wharf During this summer there will be: Fashion weekend (29th - 31st May); dance performances (29th June - 4th July); outdoor Ping pong (7th –16th August); screens showing sport events in the park...

Quad Style

Chilling out in the sun by Crosslands is the perfect place to stylish, intelligent and modish. Amin, styled an oversized white top, finished with a pair a shades; ready for the summer right before the "intense" heat hits England. Haha! Whereas, Carlo's pre-summer sartorial was more casual. He wore a maroon T-shirt and comfy jeans.   Whilst Alessandro, took a sharper approach with a blue shirt yet still looked immaculately relaxed.

Impressed with Vogue Fest

If ever there was an excuse to get all dressed up on the weekend and surround yourself with glamour and fashion fun, it’s for the Vogue Festival. This year’s Vogue Fest seemed to stop at no limits as the foyer activities alone was an immense fashion overload. The day featured a Bobbi Brown beauty station, an organic pharmacy giving feel-good-facials, a Topshop nail bar, trend talks with Vogue editors, the chance to have a Vogue cover shoot with Chanel accessories, book signings, Vogue speed styling and a Vogue shop which contained exclusive, limited edition merchandise. There was also a Harrods café and a Harrods green man greeting people, adding that extra classiness. With all of this in mind, the price of the ticket at £25 simply seemed too good to be true, and would have been a fashi...
